Barcelona’s La Liga trip to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium to take on Sevilla on Saturday has officially been postponed by the High Council for Sports (CSD).

La Liga had asked for the game, and Villarreal vs Alaves, to be rearranged because of a clash with CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying fixtures.

The last fixtures of the South American World Cup qualifiers in the international break will take place in the early hours of Friday European time, meaning La Liga players would not be able to play this weekend.

Barcelona’s Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo was one player who would miss the match along with Sevilla’s Argentine trio Gonzalo Montiel, Papu Gómez and Marcos Acuña.

The RFEF reportedly turned down the request last week but La Liga lodged a challenge which has now proved to be successful.

The decision means that Barcelona will not play this weekend and will return to action on September 14th at the Camp Nou with the visit of Bayern in the Champions League.

There’s no date yet for when the match will be played instead. The other eight La Liga games set for this weekend will go ahead as planned.
