Drama as Imo govt seals banks for allegedly complying with IPOB sit-at-home order

TUESDAY- 7th September, 2021: The Imo State Government, through one of its agencies, the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) on Tuesday shut down all banks’ branches around Bank Road, Owerri capital of Imo State over alleged failure to open on Monday, a day slated in the South East for sit-at-home in protest of Nnamdi Kanu’s detention.

The banks affected were Polaris Bank, Access Bank PLC, Skye Bank, Union Bank, First Bank, Heritage (Enterprise) Bank, Keystone Bank, and EcoBank.

The branches of the affected banks in the State, which are now under lock and key have remained locked as hundreds of customers were stranded at the time of filing this report.

the customized ribbons the state government officials used in sealing the various banks as early as 7 am can be seen on the doors.

Some of the bank staff interviewed said that the operatives of Owerri Capital Development Authority sealed the banks.

When contacted, Mr Modestus Nwankpa, Special Adviser on Local Print said that the banks were sealed because of building approval plans and not over alleged failure to open on Monday.
