The club have previously spoken out against the influence of companies buying stakes in players following the sale of Marcos Rojo to Manchester United in August

Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has applauded the decision of Fifa to ban third party ownership (TPO) in football.

The game's world governing body have announced they are to ban individuals and companies from buying stakes in players - something that has become rife in football in recent years.

"Fifa understand people all over the world don't want that menace in football," said Carvalho. "They are almost in every club right now. They are breeding all over the clubs.

"Clubs need solutions and there were people who came and said 'I have the solutions for all your problems', and they don't understand they are killing the game."

Carvalho has previously revealed how Sporting were pressured into selling defender Marcos Rojo for €16 million to Manchester United by Doyen Sports.

A contract, signed before De Carvalho's tenure, stipulated that Doyen owned 75 per cent of the Argentine's playing rights and were therefore entitled to shop him around to suitors.

However, that is set to become a thing of the past following a statement released by Fifa on Monday via their official Twitter account.

“The Fifa Executive Committee (ExCo) has taken the principle decision that third-party ownership shall be banned with a transitional period."
