World Food Day: Oyo Govt. reiterates commitment to food sustenance and sufficiency

SATURDAY, 16th October, 2021: In a bid to achieve food sustenance and sufficiency in the state, the Oyo state Government has reiterated its commitment to support farmers and youths boost food production in the state.
This development was revealed to CEOAFRICA in a press statement by the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi, to commemorate World Food Day today.
The statement which was released by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Wasiu Olatubosun, PhD., noted that the present administration of Oyo State under the leadership of Eng. Seyi Makinde would stop at nothing to ensure that the theme for this year’s World Food Day which is “Our Actions are our future; Better production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment and a better Life" becomes a reality for the state.
Hon. Adebisi further reassured farmers and other stakeholders in the state’s agricultural sector that the state government is working hard to create an enabling environment that will lead to the improvement of the agriculture sector, which will result in the eradication of poverty, hunger and the promotion of healthy diets in the state.
The commissioner then called on stakeholders in the state to come up with innovative ideas and suggestions that would lead to improved productivity, profitability and sustainability of the food value chains in the State.
Speaking on the occasion of the World Food Day, Adebisi noted that it presents an opportunity to appreciate the efforts of the State Government in ensuring food sufficiency and the encouragement of local food contents consumed in the State.
He added that the main objective of the global celebration which is marked every 16th of October across the globe is to heighten public awareness on the problem of hunger, malnutrition and poverty as well as proffer solutions to the problem of agriculture and food production.
World Food Day which is celebrated every 16th of October, is an international day initiated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for the eradication of poverty.
