Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema, has said one of the legacies of his administration is that it has not incurred any debt since inception in 2007.

Shema said though some states had incurred debts running into millions of naira, the state had managed to utilise its allocation and Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, prudently to run and transform the state to what it is today.

The governor disclosed this when the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, and other traditional leaders paid him Sallah visit yesterday at the old Government House.

He however clarified that there was debt which the state owed several decades ago which was being deducted from the state’s allocation by the Debt Management Office.

He accused critics of wrongly assuming his administration had incurred the said debt, just as he said he had made the state better off than what it used to be with the implementation of development programmes in education, agriculture and other sectors.

Shema however warned politicians and related stakeholders against use of violence as well as ethnic and religious sentiments during next year’s general elections.

He said history had shown that those that use such in attaining their political objective often end up not achieving their dreams, not having gone through the right channel for it.

He further called for prayers for a good and Godfearing person that would succeed him next year and for peace and unity of state and country in general.

The emir, Alaji Kabir Usman, also called for prayers for a good leader that would succeed Shema, who would have interest of the people at heart.

He prayed that the security and other related challenges facing the country would be brought to an end, even as he called on people to eschew habits that are bad, illegal and immoral
