In a bid to confirm the rumour making round of his intention to contest for the presidency in next year’s elections, former Kwara state governor, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has said that he would declare his ambition next week.

The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, made this statement on Sunday, 5 October, 2014, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, according to the press breifing.

It was gathered that Saraki announced that his decision to make public his ambition stems from calls for him to join the APC presidential race, adding that, the support he has received from the people has been overwhelming.

The former governor is presently representing Kwara Central in the Nigerian Senate.

Making the declaration at his Iloffa residence in Ilorin, Saraki said in spite of a number of politicians seeking the APC’s presidential ticket, the party will not disintegrate, noting that, others would rally round whoever emerges as the party’s flag-bearer.

It would be recalled that former Nigerian vice president Atiku Abubakar and former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) have declared their intentions to run for the presidency on the platform of APC.

The two-time governor noted that the 2015 poll is about Nigeria, which requires everyone, devoid of party affiliations, to contribute.

Saraki said the birth of the APC as a strongest opposition in the country, was as a result of collective sacrifice by all stakeholders.

He also blamed the opposition for striving to undermine the APC over what becomes of the party after its presidential primary, stating that all aspirants have resolved to work together for the progress of the party irrespective of who emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.

Only last week, Saraki criticised President Goodluck Jonathan, tasking him to provide leadership and protect the judiciary following the current security situation in Ekiti State.

The leadership of APC had announced last month that it would start its primary elections in October 2014, to enable them nominate a presidential candidate for the 2015 general election.

The 2015 presidential elections would hold in the first quarter of next year across Nigeria, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
