Lagos State Government plans to situated Enterprise zones, meant to create communities of complementary businesses in the same location with enhanced environment, social and economic structure and facilities that will encourage competitiveness
These Enterprise zones which are the smallest units of industrial clusters being located in Ijanikin, Ojo; Gberigbe-Ikorodu; and Ibeju-Agbe in Ibeju-Lekki area of the Lagos state, has been structured to accommodate 500 businesses and targeted at creating about ten thousand jobs.
According to the State Ministry of Commerce and Industry which disclosed this new move, the enterprise zone sites had been cleared and fenced round, and is expected to cater for the interest of small and micro businesses, some of which are currently battling for survival under the weight non-availability of power supply and poor infrastructure.
Sola Oworu, the commissioner for commerce and industry, who confirmed this, said the state government was promoting the development of zones to accommodate micro and small enterprises with particular focus on artisans and tradesmen such as metal fabricators, block moulders and cane weavers, most of who are presently operating in inappropriate and oftentimes unauthorised locations across the state.
The Commissioner also revealed that the ministry has been holding talks with a number of local and foreign investors on the possibility of attracting investment in the area of infrastructure provision and overall development of the zones.
