From Maputo in Mozambique, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the Angolan Minister of Geology and Mines, Manuel Queiroz has completed his official visit to Mozambique.

During the press conference which marked the end of the visit, Mozambique Minister of Mineral Resources, Esperanca Bias expressed government’s intention to learn from Angola’s vast experience in diamond mining. She said there are diamonds in Mozambique but only few has been harnessed so far. This is the main reason why Mozambique would need the assistance of Angola to locate where those diamonds are hidden.

She also expressed government’s readiness to step up cooperation between public companies of the two countries in the diamond mining area.

“The visit by Queiroz was an opportunity to review progress since the two countries signed a cooperation agreement in mining and geology in 2007. The area which Angola is most developed is the training of skilled labour in mining, and Mozambique wishes to take advantage of this knowledge,” she said.

Furthermore, Bias said, “By the end of this year, our public companies must reach an agreement on how to advance with joint geological work. We have a Mozambican team which will visit Angola in the coming months to discuss the Kiimberley process with the Angolan institutions”.

In his responds, Queiroz acknowledged potentials embedded in Mozambique,”There is a great potential to exploit. We share this vision and we need to take a leap forward,” he said.
