Saturday 4th December 2021: Founder, Cherubim and Seraphim Holy Trinity Church, Oda Road, Akure, Ondo State, Bishop John Ikoko, has narrated how he woke up to find a newborn baby dumped at his church’s altar recently.
Bishop Ikoko, who disclosed in an interview that he has been living in this community since 1993, also said he heard the cry of a baby around 5am and started wondering where the cry was coming from. The clergy man who lives in the building behind the church was shocked because according to him there was no member with a newborn baby in his church.

How I discovered newborn baby dumped at my church's altar – Ondo bishop
He continued “So, as we came out from the mission house and opened the door of the church, we saw a baby on the altar, crying non-stop. When we got to the altar, we discovered that the baby was newly born.

“I was amazed; I had never had that kind of experience since I began this work.
“I immediately called on the people on the street to come in and see what we saw. We also went to the police station. Some policemen came and took the baby away.”
When asked if he suspected anyone who could have dumped the baby, he said,
“I don’t suspect anyone; I don’t know who could have dumped the baby.
“No, there is no way any member would be pregnant that we won’t know. No member of my church can do that. And I can also tell you that there is none of my church members who was pregnant. Those who were pregnant had given birth to their babies. In fact, there is no way a member of my church would give birth to a baby and I won’t know. So, I can only describe the incident as a surprise. As I said earlier, I hadn’t had that kind of experience before since I became a pastor.”
Bishop Ikoko called on the government to improve security measures as he believes that if there is adequate  security personel in the area they would have spotted incessant movements at night.
“We have vigilantes in the street but nobody was seen by them to have come and drop the baby here. That is why I will appeal to the state government to do more on the security of the people. We don’t have enough security. The government should recruit more hands into the Nigeria Police Force as well as the Amotekun.  We are supposed to have Amotekun corps patrolling our street.”he added.
