Wednesday 15th December 2021: Argentina and  Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero on Wednesday announced his retirement from football at a tearful press conference, just over a month after the 33-year-old was diagnosed with a heart problem.
“I have decided to stop playing professional football. It is a very hard moment but I am happy with my decision. My health comes first,” said Aguero, who enjoyed 10 highly successful years at Manchester City before leaving at the end of last season.

Sergio Aguero, 33, 'set to announce his retirement from football in a special ceremony on Wednesday
Recall that CEOAFRICA reported on 12th November, the shocking reports in Spain claiming that Argentine star, Sergio Aguero, could retire from professional football due to his lingering heart problem.
Aguero  was substituted in a match against Alaves at the Nou Camp late October, after he suffered breathing problems, while playing for new club Barcelona.
He was taken to hospital for heart tests and told not play again for at least the next three months while further examinations are carried out.
However, Catalunya Ràdio’s ‘El Matí’ show diclosed that the pathology of the 33-year-old is more complicated than expected, as they state that his condition could force him to stop playing altogether.
This latest report states that ‘the medical resonances and stress tests that he has undergone in recent days are detailing that the heart problem is more serious than it was initially valued’ at first.
And that could lead to Aguero being ‘incompatible’ with pro football ‘at a level required by Barcelona’.
Sad as the news may be, his former boss at City, Pep Guardiola sent him a clear message that his health and the rest of his life is much more important than what is left of his career.
He said: “Of course, it is difficult news for everyone. But especially for him and his family.
“We wish him well, he knows it, from all the people at Manchester City.
“We wish him a speedy recovery, but it does not matter about the time. Health and life is much more important than anything else and he knows it.
“I’m pretty sure he is in very good hands, really good doctors will take care of him and he will take care of himself.
“And come back if he can – otherwise enjoy his life and enjoy what he has done. It depends, I am not a doctor.#
“I don’t know precisely what he has, but be careful and be safe for the rest of his life.”
