Gunmen on Tuesday stormed a police station in Rivers State and forcefully opened the back door of the cell and all the detainees escaped.

This was confirmed in a statement by the Police Command in the statement.

In the statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, has directed Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Patrick Longe to expedite investigation into the cause of the cell break.

The CP directed the DCP to ensure the detention of all officers involved in the incident.

Longe is also expected to ensure the rearrest of all escapees who should be made to face the full weight of the law.
