A pathologist with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Dr Sunday Soyemi, on Tuesday told a magistrate conducting the coroner inquest into the controversial death of Slyvester Oromoni, a schoolboy, Mikhail Kadiri, that his hospital lacked a toxicology laboratory.

Soyemi, who has been a pathologist since 2005 and a Consultant since 2010, was responding to a question from the counsel for the Oromoni family, Femi Falana, during a sitting held at the Ikeja Magistrate Court, Lagos, on Tuesday.

During cross examination, Falana asked Soyemi, “You did say that when you were going through the body, you found a blackish substance in the intestine of the deceased?

The pathologist replied, “That’s correct.”

Falana pressed further, “Did you send the black substance to a toxicologist?”

“No,” Soyemi said.

The counsel also asked, “Do you have a department of radiology in LASUTH?”

“Yes,” the pathologist said.

“Do you have a department of toxicology in LASUTH?” asked Falana.

“No,” Soyemi replied.
