A teenage commander of the Islamic State of West Africa ISWAP/Boko Haram has been reportedly killed in Borno State.

The teenage leader identified as Mohammed Yusuf before his death, was the son of Goni Maina who was named after the founder of Boko Haram.

Yusuf was handed the position of a commander following the killing of his father Maina.

Maina was the former commander, governor of the Lake Chad faction of the ISWAP. He was killed on December 1 2020 in an air raid jointly conducted by the Nigerian Army and the Air Force.

His death was confirmed on Friday.

Yusuf was reportedly killed during the Nigerian military air strikes at Bukar Mairam, in the Marte Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, on the western coast of Lake Chad.

The teenager was holding the position of Commander “Rijal Amne” in Marte.

According to the report, the air raid at the time also led to the elimination of more than 100 insurgents, “including several high-ranking insurgents’ commanders, foot soldiers and Hisbah police from the ISWAP faction, late Abubakar Shekau faction and foreign mercenaries”.
