One injured, 5m property destroyed as gas explodes in Kwara

A woman has sustained serious burnt caused by huge gas explosion in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

It was gathered that the explosion also destroyed property worth N5 million.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 7.30pm at Baba- Soja’s junction along Alagbado Specialist Hospital road, Okelele, Ilorin.

The explosion was said to been caused by fire from a gas retail shop in the area.

A woman said to be the wife of the owner of the gas retail shop sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby Fatimah Hospital for treatment.

The woman was later moved to another hospital in the town for comprehensive treatment.

A victim of the gas explosion, who sells children ware in one of the shops razed by the fire, Mrs Bashirat Bashar said she lost goods worth over N2.5 million to the incident.

” I just filled my shop with goods worth over N2.5 million on Monday in preparation for Sallah sales. All the goods were burnt by the fire,” Mrs Bashar lamented.

A source also claimed that the owner of the gas retail shop also lost N2 million cash to the incident.

“The wife of the gas retail shop’s owner sustained injuries during her attempt to retrieve the N2m that her husband kept in the shop. The money is meant for purchase of goods the following day (Wednesday),” the source added.
