The Delta State chapter of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, has given the Delta State House of Assembly a seven-day ultimatum over unpaid allowances.

PASAN threatened to embark on an industrial action if its demands were not met.

The union, in a statement by its Chairman, Mr. McCartney Obrotu, said: “The congress of PSAN met on November 11, 2014 and deliberated on the matters arising from earlier ultimatum issued on October 14, 2014 with the following demands: annual wardrobe allowance; training and retraining of staff; staff promotion and car and housing loans.

“As at today, only five percent of our demands had been met and congress, therefore, resolved as follows: that seven days notice be further given for its demands to be met in accordance with the provisions of the Trade Dispute Act of Nigeria.

“At the expiration of this notice, the union shall embark on three days warning strike.”

The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr. Johnson Erijo, who is also the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, however, said in an interview that all the demands of the Assembly workers union were genuine.

Erijo said that most of the demands had been approved by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, but paucity of funds presently being experienced in the state had continued to hinder the implementation of the approvals.
