The Nigerian Army has deployed troops to three local government areas in Kwara State, to commence a coordinated security sweep.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the state government, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Tuesday.
Ajakaye said the troops were deployed to Ifelodun, Edu, and Patigi LGAs.
Kwara State Government urged citizens to report suspicious activities or unknown faces found in their locality to security agencies in the state.
According to Security sources, other agencies, including police and the secret service, have intensified intelligence gathering efforts in collaboration with the state government to intercept any planned attack on the state.
A source, who spoke with Newsmen said; “There are intelligence reports that point to the danger of attacks. So the state government has mobilised security agencies and raised alerts to prevent breaches. But it is also important for everyone to report suspicious activities or new faces in their environment.’’
“At this stage, everyone must work with the government and security agencies to disallow evil elements from disrupting the peace of the state.”
It was reported that many parts of Nigeria, including Kwara, are now recording “opportunistic abductions” done to extort the political class as the campaign for the 2023 elections has begun across the Country.
