A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has disqualified 14 House of Assembly candidates of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the State, over the party’s “non-compliance” with the Electoral Act in the conduct of its primaries.
It was reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had dragged the NNPP candidates before the Federal High Court asking for their disqualification.
The presiding Judge, Justice Turaki Muhammed, in his verdict on Thursday, said the PDP was able to prove to the court that the NNPP did not follow the guidelines stipulated in the new Electoral Act during their party primaries.
Muhammed, also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to not to recognize the affected persons as candidates.
Similarly, a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had nullified all the primaries conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State.
