The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, on Thursday, expressed regret over the terrorist attack warning issued by the US embassy, stating that his government was not consulted.
The US embassy had on Wednesday, said there is a possible weekend terror attack at Sandton, a suburb in the country’s financial hub of Johannesburg.
The embassy, who posted the warning on its website, said the attack could happen on Saturday.
Sandton, a collection of high-end shops and lofty office blocks and banks, is commonly referred to as the richest square mile on the African continent.
Ramaphosa, who was reacting to the terror alert during a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, said; “It is quite unfortunate the US issued that type of warning without having any type of discussion with us.”
“Any form of alert will come from the Government of the Republic of South Africa and it is unfortunate that another Government should issue such a threat as to send panic amongst our people.”
‘’Pretoria is working around the clock to verify and to look very closely at this message that came from the United States”.
Recall that CEOAFRICA had reported that a terror alert was also issued by the US embassy in Nigeria.
