The Gombe State Government has banned the movement of cattle from other states into Gombe, as part of its effort to curb farmers-herders clashes,
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Mohammed Magaji Gettado, during a press briefing.
The council also banned cattle movement from one local government to the other till January 2023 to maintain food production in the state.
He said; ‘’In view of this, there is a need for government to take serious measures to at least take care of the little we have on our farmers. We intend to restrict the movement of cattle from one local government to another because most of the destruction is done by indigenous cattle in Gombe State.’’
“Night grazing is one of the issues we are having between farmers and herders from 6 pm is very dangerous. Usually, they destroy farms, no night grazing from 6 pm to 6 am as far as Gombe is concerned.’’
“We have directed the leadership of Myetti Allah to make sure that no children are allowed to shepherd cattle because it is one of the causes of farmers/herders conflict.”
