The five aggrieved Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), popularly known as the G5, did not campaign for the Presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, as they flagged off the 2023 elections campaign in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Thursday.
Speaking during the campaign, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, vowed that the group, now known as ‘Integrity Group’, will continue to fight for equity, fairness, and justice for the benefit of the poor masses.
Wike urged Abia residents to follow Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and ensure that all the PDP candidates for the 2023 general election were elected.
He said; “The G5 governors will continue to support all the candidates of the PDP in Abia State.’’
“There’s nothing like going back. Do whatever Ikpeazu tells you to do. He is a man of integrity, and honesty and he is dependable, unlike some people who we supported with money and yet they left the party.”
Also speaking, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State said the governors will not relent until Nigeria is rescued from insecurity, poverty, and social and economic problems.
Other governors in attendance, including Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, each canvased for support for the PDP candidates in the state.
The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, in his remarks said his administration has left a blueprint for further development of the state through the provision of a masterplan for the state.
Ikpeazu noted that Abia PDP can boast of the best candidates for all the elective offices in the 2023 general election, adding that other political parties in the state picked their candidates from the PDP’s dustbin.
High point of the event was the presentation of the PDP flag to Ikpeazu who is running for the Abia South senatorial district seat and Professor Uche Ikonne, the Abia PDP governorship candidate, and others.
