Essential medicines should be well utilized for better health—PSN President, CPC Chair

The President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. (Prof.) Cyril Usifoh and the Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the 95th Annual National Conference of the PSN, Pharm. Victor Adekanye, have jointly declared that except the right utilization mode for essential medicine is adopted, healthy living is not assured.
The duo made the declaration at separate statements, in the course of the opening ceremony of the just concluded conference, held in Jos, recently, in a bid to address the case of drug abuse, ignorantly engaged in by the members of the public.
On his own part, Prof. Usifoh, explained that patients would always trust pharmacists for the best medical practice and dispensary of prescriptions, while counselling against self-prescription and medication.
Pharm. Adekanye, on the other part, stressed that while equitable access to medicine is the hallmark of the profession, people should ensure to utilize the medicine appropriately.
He said, “Just as we are thinking for every Nigerian to have a reliable and equitable access to the medicines and supplies, they need to have good health, it is important to ensure such essential medicines are well utilized. That is why the subtheme of this conference is, ‘Stemming the Misuse and Abuse of Essential Medicines in a Depressed Economy’”.
The conference, with the theme, “Medicine Security in an Unstable Economy”, was well attended by dignitaries across all walks of life.
