There was chaos in the early hours of Saturday, at the Zik Avenue in Awka, Anambra State, as rival cult groups clashed.
It was reported that the residents around the area ran for safety, during the shooting spree, while the cult members shot at each other.
The incident was confirmed by the State Police Command spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga.
He said; “Following the sound of gun shots at Zik Avenue, Awka, police patrol has been intensified in Awka. Preliminary information revealed that the cause of the shooting is as a result of cult related incident/clash.’’
“The situation is closely monitored and further development shall be communicated.”
The reason for the clash is yet to be ascertained and the numbers of casualties are yet to be known.
