The chairman of the National Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Kayode Fayemi says the party is prepared to conduct a transparent and credible primary election that will lead to the emergency of its presidential candidate.
He said this during his tour of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, venue of the convention.
Commenting the procedure for voting, Fayemi said “It is a simple process. And before the election, the aspirants will have the opportunity of wooing the delegates. This we believe could assist any delegate to make their clear choice.”
He, however, said that “the mode of the primaries is a secret ballot. After the delegates complete their voting, it would be counted and the winner would be announced.”
He added that “in order to ensure free and fair election, we have provided transparent boxes. And the delegates are statutory and elected political delegates. And we have provided banners stating where delegates from each of the state should seat. And they would be called in alphabetical order.”
On how delegates for the convention were elected, he said “the delegates were chosen from the state congresses and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja held earlier in the year. We also have statutory delegates; these were people who qualified as delegates based on the post they held in the past and present. And these, added to those who were elected to represent the 774 local governments. This is very important to the development of our party and the country.”
We’re here for positive change–Oyinlola. Also speaking, former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola said members of the APC “are here to pick a candidate that will provide positive change in the affairs of Nigeria.”
