The Chrisland University Community will on Thursday, 16th February, 2023 witness an epoch making day for the university's 8th annual matriculation ceremony. The ceremony which is billed to take place at the main campus would have Dr. Uju Agomoh who is currently serving at the united Nation to be the guest speaker of the event.
The event which is expected to attract dignitaries across board is tagged ’Promoting Peace, Security and Development: A Collective Responsibility.'
Speaking to CEOAfrica about the upcoming event, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, FAS said the ceremony will hold at the university auditorium on Thursday, 16th February, 2023, to officially welcome the new students into the institution.
Responding to the choice of theme for the matriculation, Prof. Babalola revealed that "the topic of the matriculation was a necessity especially at the present state of the country where insecurity and violence have reach some climax, taking over many parts of the country. That is why we decided to pick Dr. Uju Agomoh who is currently serving at the united Nation to be the keynote speaker; because we know she have the prowess to deliver and by so doing our new students will not be found wanting in the area of promoting peace and security conscious."
She reassured further that Chrisland University is a leading institution, dedicated to quality learning and research education and its watched globally and over the years have built it identity positively therefore new intake should be guided appropriately.
A brief profile of the guest speaker, Dr Agomoh is currently serving as expert or consultant to many international organizations including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), European Union, Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British Government, British Council, Embassy of Switzerland, Konrad Adenauer Stifung (KAS), GIZ, UNICEF, etc. Dr. Agomoh has held several leadership positions as well as spear-headed many innovative and institutional transformational Programmes. She is equally an Executive Committee Member of the African Security Sector Network and also the President, International Corrections and Prisons Association Africa - Chapter (ICPA-Africa). she is also the founder, prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action. (PRAWA).
Dr. Agomoh has held several leadership positions as well as spear-headed many innovative and institutional transformational Programmes. She served as the Project Coordinator for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC). She is supervising the Support to the Justice Sector in Nigeria Project (a project with overall budget of 21.9 Million USD and funded under the 10th European Development Fund) (October 2016 - August 2017). She was also the Lead Consultant for the design of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme (a 50 million USD project funded under the 11th European Development Fund Establishment of the Nigerian Parole System and the Development of Parole Guidelines; Establishment of the Mental Health Review Board for Correctional Centres and the Development of the Mental Health and Justice Guidance Manual/Guidelines; Development of the Nigeria Police Human Rights Training Manual, Nigeria Police Human Rights Trainers’ Guide, and Nigeria Police Human Rights Pocket Handbook; Development of the National Legal Aid Strategy of Nigeria 2016-2022; Development of Paralegal Curriculum in Tertiary Universities in Nigeria.
The 8th matriculation ceremony is to mark the formal entry of its new intakes into the prestigious institution for the 2022/2023 academic session.
