The Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund, Dr Sanusi Ohiare, has declared his intention to join the race for the Kogi State governorship election.
Sanusi made his intentions known through a letter on Monday submitted to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, seen by our correspondent.
He said he would pick up his form at the APC secretariat in Wuse, Abuja on Tuesday by 10 am.
The Punch had reported that others who have already picked up their N50m Kogi governorship forms are the senator representing Kogi-West, Smart Adeyemi; the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal constituency, Lagos State, James Faleke.
Others are the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kogi State,  Abdulkarim Asuku; the state Auditor General, Ahmed Ododo; and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Salami Ozigi-Deedat.
Ohiare noted that his intention for joining the race was a result of his sense of commitment to serve and address the complex challenges of the state.
The REF boss said, “Distinguished leaders and members of this esteemed platform, following extensive consultations with individual members of this platform, stakeholders of our great party APC, family and friends; and after deep introspection, I hereby formally declare my intention to run for the position of the Governor of Kogi State.
“The decision to contest was borne out of a sense of commitment to public service and my ability to address complex challenges owing to my diverse experience”
Ohiare noted that the race for the governor of Kogi State is unusually a close contest that reflects the hopes and aspirations of many voters in the state: Like millions of other Nigerians, Kogi indigenes are living with sharply higher costs of food and a high rate of unemployment.
He added, “I am not just another average politician worried about jobs, safety, economy, etc, I am an extensively experienced public servant who seeks to shake tables and get things done. I also seek to give us all a seat at the table in governance and our great party. I am a hands-on politician.
“I, therefore, call on you to join me on 21st February 2023, by 10 am at the APC National Secretariat – 40 Blantyre, Crescent Wuse 2, Abuja, as I submit my expression of interest and nomination forms.”
Ohiare added that he was determined to promote a collaborative approach to his campaign and governing “as you have witnessed from my records over the years.
“I seek your unwavering support to achieve this task as this position is representative of everyone on this platform.”
“Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our great Party,” he added.
