Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has today granted approval for the lifting of ban on riding Motorcycles in 7 Local Government Areas of the state. This was contained in a statement signed by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), Special Adviser on Security Affairs to the Governor.
According to the announcement “I am directed to convey the approval of the Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN (Chiroman Gujba) lifting the ban on riding of motorbike as follows: the ban on the riding of motorbike is hereby lifted with effect from 6th March 2023 in the 7 Local Government Areas of Zone A, namely: Bursari, Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani, Tarmuwa and Yunusari.”
“The ban is lifted with the following conditions: Motorbikes are to operate between 6am and 6:00pm daily. Motorbikes are not to be used for commercial purposes ‘Achaba’. There will be no conveyance of passengers on motorbikes. Only a rider will be allowed without any other person on the motorbike. There should be proper registration, licensing, and documentation of all motorbikes and riders in the affected LGAs by the Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) and the Yobe State Vehicle Licensing Authority.”
“All Motorbikes are to operate within their respective LGAs only. Any motorbike rider(s) that conveys passenger(s) would be sanctioned in accordance with extant rules and regulations.”
“It added that “There would be no inter-local government area movement with motorbikes. Anyone found violating this condition would be appropriately sanctioned. All security agencies are requested to monitor and ensure strict compliance with these directives.”
