Outgoing EU Ambassador Says Nigeria is Safe

CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the outgoing Representative of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. David Mac Rae, has said it categorically that Nigeria is a safe place to live.

The statement was made at an audience reception organized to bid him farewell. Mr. Mac Rae claimed to have visited Niger-Delta region and some parts in the North, said he saw people who were going about their normal businesses without fear.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed his delight that the JTF is gradually weakening the Boko Haram Sect. He said the measures taken by his administration in tackling the security matter had resulted into a significant reduction in the occurrence of terrorist attacks in the country.

“As a government, we are doing everything possible to improve our country on all fronts. We are consistently adapting our security architecture to deal with terrorism which has become a challenge to the whole world. Boko Haram is being progressively weakened, but we are not resting on our oars. We will continue to do everything possible to achieve greater security for all who reside within our borders,” the president said.

President Jonathan, according to sources, welcomed the earlier comment about the safety of Nigeria by the outgoing Ambassador urged him to assist in correcting current misconceptions about Nigeria by taking that positive message to the EU and the rest of the world.

He therefore concluded by assuring Mac Rae that Nigeria would act to facilitate the early conclusion of a partnership agreement between ECOWAS and the EU
