To forestall any security breach, the Nigerian military has imposed total restriction on vehicular movement on Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state and birthplace of the Boko Haram insurgency.

The military, in a statement, said the decision was made following security reports at its disposal.

A statement signed by the Army Public Relations Officer of the headquarters of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri, Col. Sani Usman claimed that there are concerted efforts by the terrorist sect to unleash mayhem or terror in some parts of Borno state particularly the state capital Maiduguri metropolis during the Christmas celebration.

The statement which was made available to journalists on Tuesday said the Nigerian Army Division 7 Maiduguri in consultation with the Borno State Government and other security agencies has decided to ban all forms of vehicular movement in the state from 6.00 pm on Wednesday 24th December 2014 to 7.00am Sunday 28th December 2014.
