On January 23, 2024, colleagues, friends, family members, and associates from the scientific community gathered at the residence of Professor Aina Adeogun in University of Ibadan to felicitate with her on her birthday.
The celebration was a grand affair that paid tribute to the remarkable achievements that it has pleased the Lord to make her accomplish in her life and career.
The festivities kicked off with a Holy Communion Service attended by her supervisor, mentors, fellow professors and presided over the Chaplain and Assistant Chaplain of the Chapel of The Resurrection, University of lbadan. The celebration was filled with joy as attendees praised God for Professor Adeogun. The celebrant expressed gratitude to God by reading from Psalm 34, verses 1 to 10.
The event was adorned with pictures of her late father, His Eminence Primate Dr. Gabriel Adeogun, and her mother, Mother-in-Israel Taiwo Abike Adeogun, showcasing her deep love and affection for her parents.
After the Communion service, the celebrant had a reception in the garden of her residence , where she hosted well-wishers, including faculty and students. The celebration featured a plethora of delicious food, drinks, cakes, and, of course, fun.
Professor Adeogun's journey to success began in 1991 when she obtained her B.Sc. in Zoology. With her determination and passion for science, she went on to pursue an M.Sc. in 1994 and later a Ph.D. in 2004, both specializing in Aquatic Toxicology and Fisheries. Her exceptional academic and research achievements have made her a distinguished figure in the scientific community.
Professor Adeogun's contributions to the field of aquatic toxicology are evident in her extensive publication record. With over 94 scientific publications credited on the Academia website alone, she has significantly advanced the understanding of the impact of pollutants and toxins on aquatic ecosystems. Her research has played a vital role in shaping policies and initiatives aimed at preserving and protecting aquatic life.
Beyond her research, Professor Adeogun has been a driving force in promoting gender equality and empowering women in science as the Coordinator of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) lbadan Branch. Her leadership and advocacy have inspired numerous women to pursue careers in STEM fields, contributing to a more inclusive and diverse scientific community.
As a professor at the University of Ibadan's Faculty of Science, she has guided and mentored countless students, helping shape the future generation of scientists. Her commitment to education and ability to inspire and motivate others have earned her admiration from colleagues and students alike with her students coming in large numbers for a surprise birthday song for her at 7am on her birthday at her residence.

In an Interview with CEOAFRICA, Dr Ochei, described the celebrant as lovable and wished her long life. Dr. Adebola, also known as Iya Adigun Oniru, wished her long life and prosperity, referring to her as a good mother of the OWSD and a mentor. Mr. Okali a supervisee of Professor Adeogun, also wished her a long life and prosperity.
Mojetoluwa, a student of Professor Adeogun, described her as an amazing woman who is very accommodating. Bolaji David, who considers the celebrant his guardian and mentor, expressed gratitude for the care he has received.
Professor Adeogun expressed her appreciation to everyone for the love and kindness, as well as the gifts received during the celebration. She took a moment to reflect on God's grace that has kept her alive and prayed that she would continue to celebrate her birthday with a thanksgiving service and holy communion, if God permits.
