MRTBN Registrar, Professor Rufai Yusuf Ahmad to Visit Chrisland University

In an exciting development for Chrisland University, the Registrar Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria, Professor Rufai Yusuf Ahmad DPT, Ph.D, FNSP, FPPC, is set to visit the prestigious institution. This visit comes after Chrisland University recently received NUC full accreditation for six additional programs, including physiotherapy, medical laboratory science, cybersecurity, software engineering, mathematics and industrial chemistry.

Of significant note is the fact that Chrisland University is the first university in Nigeria and Africa by extension, to be granted accreditation by the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), enabling the university to run and award Doctor of Physiotherapy degree. The Board had visited the university in May, 2023 for accreditation while NUC granted full accreditation to the university in November, 2022 to run the academic programme. This accomplishment has solidified Chrisland University's position as one of the leading private universities in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

The Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, noted that the NUC and MRTBN’s approval was based on the adequate resources provided by the Board of Trustees (BOT), the support of its facilities, and the qualified lecturers in the respective departments. The university’s dedication to equipping its students with the necessary tools and resources for success has played a crucial role in achieving this accreditation.

MRTBN registrar, Professor Yusuf Rufai Ahmad, is a highly accomplished and esteemed individual, in the field of physiotherapy. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from Bayero University and advanced degrees from the University of Southampton in the UK and the University of Michigan-Flint in the USA. He is also an Associate Professor and Deputy Director at Bayero University, as well as an Honorary Consultant Physiotherapist at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and later confirmed full Professor.

As the registrar of the MRTB, Professor Ahmad plays a critical role in the regulation and control of various professions in the health sector, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, clinical audiology, osteopathic medicine, chiropractic medicine, and prosthetics and orthotics. The MRTB is responsible for ensuring that these professions adhere to high standards of training and practice.

The visit to Chrisland University is part of Professor Ahmad's ongoing efforts to foster collaboration between academic institutions and regulatory bodies. During his visit, he aims to engage with faculty members, students, and administrators to discuss the importance of regulatory compliance and professional development in the field of medical rehabilitation therapy.
