“Africa has faced too many challenges and facing more which are as a result of blatant neglect of constitutional order will be consuming. Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger are all grappling with constitutional negligence, Senegal is one too many.
“Suspending the constitution is a potential path to dictatorship, and other African countries are watching; the military is watching and might take advantage of the instability to follow suit.
“Much is on the shoulders of ECOWAS and the reputation of the bloc is once again being tested. Should ECOWAS fail to wade in and reign over President Macky, it would be a dangerous record and further devalue the bloc.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must impact his charismatic leadership on ECOWAS, to ensure the bloc continues to sustain democratic values across the board.”
