Women in Science hold Symposium & Award Ceremony

The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Ibadan branch is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Award Ceremony. The event is scheduled to kick off by 10 a.m on Wednesday,May 22, 2024, at the Department of Zoology, University of Ibadan.

The theme for the 2024 Life Member Award Ceremony and AGM Workshop is “Building a Career Path in Academia: Guiding Principles for the Female Academic”.

Two women professors are billed to speak at the event among other notable speakers.

Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, Vice-Chancellor, Chrisland University, is slated to speak on the sub-theme Collaboration Outside Box; and Prof. Oyeronke Odunola, Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Ibadan, is taped to speak on Breaking the Glass Ceiling and Sustainability Nexus as another sub-theme.

A professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacokinetics – and the first female professor of pharmacy at the University of Ibadan – Babalola will address the dynamics of collaboration among women scientists outside of conventional red-tapism. A specialist adviser and consultant pharmacist to the University College Hospital (UCH), the Chrisland VC will also address principles by which women scientists can build their career in the academic world at the OWSD event.

OWSD is a global organization established in 1987 to unite eminent women scientists around the world for skill enhancement in scientific and technological leadership. A programme unit of UNESCO, OWSD maintains its international office at the complex of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Italy. The organization provides training, development, and networking opportunities for women scientists in the developing world.
