The Victims Support Fund of the Federal Government has re-assured victims of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno of rebuilding their homes and other structures destroyed by the insurgents.

Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep, Chairman of the fund’s Sub-Committee on data collection, gave the assurance in Maiduguri on Thursday while presenting relief materials to victims of recent insurgency attacks in the state.

Wuyep was represented by Dr Bulama Gubio, a member of the committee representing Jama ‘atul Nasrul Islam and the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs on the committee.

He said that the fund was set up to source for fund to rehabilitate the numerous victims of insurgency in all parts of the country.
Wuyep disclosed that about N58.79 billion was collected at the launch of the fund in August, adding that the amount was intact.

 “The Victims Support Fund is not entirely a Federal Government thing.

“It has membership from the federal states, the private sector as well as international bodies such as UNICEF and USAID,” he said.

The chairman said the objective of the fund was to assist victims of insurgency to go back to their normal life after the crisis.

He, however, lamented that the fund was unable to commence rebuilding of damaged structures in Borno due to continuous attacks by insurgents.

“The fund would have started rebuilding villages, markets, schools, and other public places destroyed by the insurgents, but for the continuous attacks in these places.

“We are just waiting for the attacks to end and normalcy restored so that we will start rebuilding the structures,” the chairman said.
He added that the fund would assist victims who lost their means of livelihood with token amount as business capital to start new life.

Wuyep said that the presentation of the relief materials was to alleviate the hardship being faced by victims of the renewed attacks in the state.

“The items presented include: 4,800 bags of rice; 4, 800 bags of beans and 4, 800 litres of cooking oil.

“The gesture is aimed at providing succour to the families affected by the recent attacks in the state,” he said.
