Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have apprehended two suspects found in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle and ammunition at Boto Market, located in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the State.

The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Abdulgafar Mohammed and 25-year-old Yusuf Isa, are both from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State.

According to preliminary police investigations, the duo travelled from Plateau State to Boto Market, where they attempted to sell the rifle for N580,000.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, stated that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts by the police to combat the proliferation of small and light arms in the state.

Wakil further disclosed that a thorough investigation is underway and the suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is completed.
