Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has told Lagosians to vote a young, vibrant candidate who would be able to withstand the rigours of governing the state.

Mr. Fashola stated this Wednesday at the special rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

The Lagos State governor described Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in the state, as a 60 year old who would be unable to cope as a governor.

“You know what you must do. Open your eyes clearly,” Mr. Fashola told thousands of party supporters in attendance.
“You see, this job is a tough job. When I took this job, at the age of 44, I was counting the number of white hair on my head. Today, at 52, I am counting the number of black hair on my head.

“Akinwunmi (Ambode) is younger than me. You need youthfulness to do this job. That man (Mr. Agbaje) is already 60; he cannot cope with this job. If you call him at night he will not take your phone.”

Mr. Agbaje is 57 while Mr. Ambode, the APC’s governorship candidate is 51.

Muhammadu Buhari, the APC presidential candidate, is 72.

Mr. Fashola also urged Lagosians to ensure that they collect their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the end of January.

“Your right to vote is not the gift of any government. It is the right that you have as a citizen in any part of the world where democracy is practised,” said Mr. Fashola.

“So whether INEC give you PVC or they give you TVC, INEC is just helping to do a job that is yours as a right. On Election Day, you will be entitled to vote and nobody, let me repeat, nobody can stop you from exercising your right to vote.”

In his address, Mr. Ambode said that the APC was out to make Lagos work for everyone.

“We are not going to leave anyone behind,” said Mr. Ambode, a former Accountant General of the state.

“Lagos is a cosmopolitan state, be you Igbo, be you Efik, be you Hausa, be you Yoruba, APC will stand for you. We have been doing it for the last 16 years and that is what we want to continue to do.”
