Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the spate of tanker explosions in Nigeria following yet another tragic incident in Enugu State.
The explosion, which occurred just a week after a similar disaster in Niger State claimed nearly 100 lives, has left 15 people dead, with many others injured.
Peter Obi noted that this month alone, Nigeria has witnessed at least three such accidents, resulting in significant loss of life and property.
In a statement shared via his social media handle, Obi lamented the alarming frequency of these incidents and called for urgent measures to address the issue.
“We must begin to truly prioritise the safety and security of lives and property by implementing measures that drastically mitigate the occurrence of these accidents, which have now become too many,” he said.
Obi emphasised the need for improved infrastructure, particularly the repair of existing roads, the enforcement of strict road safety regulations, and public education on safety protocols at accident scenes.
Expressing his condolences, Obi said, “My heart goes out to the families who are devastated by the loss of their loved ones to this terrible accident. I also sympathise with the government and people of Enugu State over this tragic occurrence. May God grant eternal rest to the dead and quick healing to the injured.”
He called on authorities to intensify efforts in preventing such preventable disasters and to ensure the safety of Nigerians across the country.
