The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned legal practitioners against charging clients in foreign currencies, stressing that lawyers found engaging in the practice will face prosecution.

The Acting Zonal Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, issued the warning on Friday, September 11, 2026, when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Task Force on Illegal Practice of Law.

The delegation, led by its Head, Moshood Abiola, paid a courtesy visit to Kaltungo at his office in Lagos.

Kaltungo expressed concern over the involvement of some lawyers in practices he described as illegal and unethical, warning that the Commission would take decisive action against those found culpable.

“The Commission would not hesitate to prosecute anyone found culpable,” Kaltungo said.
