The University of Ibadan is poised to host the third and final phase of its impactful lecture series titled "Decolonizing Food Security for Enduring Multi-Sectoral Pathways to Poverty Mitigation in Nigeria" on Thursday, March 20, 2025. The event will begin at 3:00pm in the prestigious Trenchard Hall, featuring Professor Mohammed Kuta Yahaya as the keynote speaker.

The lecture series commenced on March 6 with a focus on foundational concepts in food security, followed by a second phase on March 13 that emphasized local initiatives and the need for decolonization within Nigeria's agricultural practices. This upcoming session is anticipated to be the hallmark of the series, as Professor Yahaya will delve into “The Multi-Sectoral Pathways for Enduring Poverty Mitigation in Nigeria.”

In this final installment, Professor Yahaya aims to provide actionable insights and strategies that can significantly contribute to the fight against poverty through comprehensive agricultural reform. “This lecture will explore how multi-sectoral collaboration can create robust pathways to alleviate poverty and ensure sustainable food security,” he explained ahead of the event.

The previous phases of the series drew significant interest from diverse audiences, including policymakers, academics, and stakeholders in agricultural rural development, who engaged in critical discussions about the historical impacts of colonialism on Nigeria's food systems. Participants eagerly anticipate the culmination of these dialogues as they explore practical solutions and frameworks necessary for driving transformative change in the sector.

With ongoing challenges related to food insecurity and economic disparity in Nigeria, Professor Yahaya’s insights are particularly timely. He advocates for a multi-sectoral approach that encompasses education, community-led initiatives, and policy advocacy as essential components for creating sustainable agricultural practices that empower local communities and uplift the national economy.

The University of Ibadan invites students, faculty, stakeholders, and all members of the public to participate in this vital dialogue. As the series reaches its conclusion, this lecture promises to provide valuable insights and serve as a call to action for a more equitable and sustainable agricultural future.

As the date approaches, excitement is building for what promises to be an engaging and enlightening session, where attendees will gain the knowledge and tools needed to champion food security and economic development throughout Nigeria.
