A fire outbreak has destroyed sensitive documents at the Ilesa high court 2 building in Osun state.

The building was said to have been set ablaze by suspected arsonists on Sunday evening.

Besides the courtroom, the structure serves as offices for some judges and judicial workers.

By the time firefighters arrived the scene, the facility had been gutted.

Reacting to the incident, Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, condemned the arson, saying it is “an unjustifiable attack on the state’s judiciary”.

A statement by Olawale Rasheed, chief press secretary to the Osun governor, said Adeleke had ordered security agencies to investigate the incident.

Adeleke also directed security agencies to beef up surveillance activities at all court premises across the state.

“Thorough investigation must be conducted by the security agencies to apprehend the suspects and ensure they face the consequences of their actions,” the governor said.

“I further direct security agencies to beef up surveillance across the various court buildings.

“Additionally, the attorney-general and commissioner for justice is to join hands with the ministry of works and infrastructure for the immediate rehabilitation of the burnt down building.”
