The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) added colour, energy, and camaraderie to the 98th Annual National Conference (DABO 2025) with a special golf tournament held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the prestigious Kano Golf Club.
The event, which formed part of the Society’s week-long conference activities, brought together leading figures in Nigeria’s healthcare and pharmaceutical space, creating an atmosphere of networking, sportsmanship, and strategic engagement beyond the conference halls.
The tournament drew prominent stakeholders, including the PSN President, Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim; Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor, Dr. Garba, who represented the Governor as Special Guest of Honour; Past President of PSN, Pharm. Ahmed I. Yakasai; Chairman, Board of Fellows (BOF-PSN), Pharm. Uchenna Apakama; and Managing Director/CEO, Alpha Pharmacy & Stores, Pharm. (Sir) Ike Onyechi, among others.
Representing the Governor, Dr. Garba praised the PSN for integrating sports into its annual conference. “Kano State is proud to host this important gathering. Events like this promote unity, wellness, and collaboration among professionals who play a vital role in our healthcare system,” he said, assuring the Society of the state’s continuous support for initiatives that advance public health.
In his remarks, PSN President, Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, said the tournament was designed to strengthen interpersonal relationships among healthcare leaders while creating an environment where ideas could flow freely.
“Golf is more than a sport; it is a platform for connection. As we enjoy the game, we also build networks that will help us move the profession forward,” he noted, commending participants for embracing the initiative.
Speaking to CEOAFRICA shortly after the tournament, the BOF-PSN National Chairman, Pharm. Uchenna Apakama, expressed his delight at the success of the event.
“I am excited about this. Golf is a game where people come together; as they play, they chat, discuss, and even learn. I want to thank the President for this initiative. I believe that at next year’s conference in Awka, we will also play golf—I’m sure this won’t end here,” he said.
Participants described the tournament as refreshing, educative, and enriching, noting that the blend of leisure and learning helped boost the overall conference experience. Attendees enjoyed not only the competitive spirit of the game but also the opportunity to share knowledge, expand professional networks, and strengthen bonds across the healthcare ecosystem.
