The Anambra State Government has warned that students who fail to attend school on Mondays due to the ongoing sit-at-home practice risk facing a one-week suspension, as part of measures to restore normal academic activities across the state.

The directive was issued by the Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a meeting with the management of Mount Olive Schools and Springfield Academy GRA, Onitsha, held at the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, March 4.

Chuma-Udeh said the warning followed instructions from the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, aimed at ensuring that schools across Anambra State operate fully on Mondays.

She explained that the two schools were invited by the ministry to clarify their alleged failure to comply with the government’s directive on Monday attendance.

“This measure is in line with the state government’s resolve to ensure full resumption of academic activities on Mondays across Anambra. I urge schools to comply with the directive,” the commissioner said.

During the meeting, the management of Mount Olive Schools informed the ministry that student attendance had improved in recent weeks. However, representatives of Springfield Academy said some parents remained hesitant to send their children to school on Mondays.

Both schools, however, assured the ministry of their commitment to intensify efforts to encourage parents and ensure that students attend classes regularly at the start of the week.
