A yet-to-be-identified driver has allegedly been shot dead by operatives said to be from the Nigeria Customs Service along the Osogbo–Iwo Road in Osun State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in the Onibueja area of Ido-Osun, near a police roadblock.

According to eyewitness accounts, the operatives—who were allegedly dressed in plain clothes—were pursuing the driver from the Iwo axis of the road before opening fire on his vehicle. A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Sunday, said the shooting drew a large crowd to the scene.

“The man was driving towards the Osogbo end from the Iwo end of the road when some security operatives in mufti shot at his vehicle,” he said. “He died right there behind the wheel. The car was riddled with bullets, and people rushed to the scene. The incident happened close to a police roadblock.”

The resident further noted that the operatives were not in uniform, making it difficult for onlookers to immediately identify them. He added that the incident sparked anger among residents.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that the incident occurred and stated that the suspected shooters were operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service. He disclosed that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.

“The incident happened, but those who allegedly fired the shots are Customs operatives. We have arrested two people in connection with the incident. I will brief the press fully in a few minutes,” Ojelabi said.

Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
