A Federal Government investigative panel has revealed that popular crossdresser Bobrisky enjoyed several privileges while serving his six-month prison sentence, including alleged access to mobile phones and accommodation in specially furnished cells.
According to the panel's report, Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, was housed in a private cell at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos. The cell reportedly contained a personal toilet and bathroom, a television, refrigerator, carpet, humidifier, and other amenities not commonly available to inmates.
The report further stated that Bobrisky was allowed unrestricted visitation, with visitors reportedly permitted to see him at any time and in any number. Family members were also allowed to bring him food during his stay.
At the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, investigators found that his cell was equipped with wallpaper, a large bed, carpeting, a television, and a humidifier. The panel also disclosed that an inmate was assigned to attend to his personal needs.
One of the panel's most notable findings was the presence of a soundproofed door attached to Bobrisky's cell. Investigators noted that no other cell on the same floor had a similar feature.
The panel also expressed the view that Bobrisky had access to mobile phones while in custody, despite regulations prohibiting inmates from possessing or using such devices.
The investigation followed the circulation of an audio recording shared by social media activist VeryDarkMan, in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed he paid officials to secure preferential treatment during his imprisonment.
Based on its findings, the panel recommended further investigations into the allegations. It also advised that VeryDarkMan be investigated over alleged breaches of data privacy laws and the dissemination of what it described as unverified claims.
