From Rwanda, CEOAFRICA gathered that Tigo-Matic Company has launched Automated Teller Machine (ATM), where customers will be buying airtime, recover their SIM cards (SIM swap) as well as send or receive money around the clock. This is the first of its kind in Africa and Rwanda specifically.

Speaking at the launching of the innovation, the Youth and ICT Minister in Rwanda, Jean Philbert Msengimana described the innovation as a smart one that would promote the digital lifestyle Rwandans desire. “I would like to thank banks and telecom firms for partnering to ensure we move towards a cashless and paperless economy with financial inclusion,” he said.

The minister added that the government seeks to move the country from an agricultural-based economy to an information-based one through the use of innovations like Tigo-Matic. The telecom firms have so far installed two Tigo-Matic ATMs at the Muhima and Nyabugogo service centres.

Also at the occasion, the firm’s chief executive officer, Diego Camberos said the innovation would usher Rwandans to a new digital lifestyle, adding that the ATMs would save subscribers’ time and are convenient.
