The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has criticised the gathering of the South-West youths, which endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan in Akure on Thursday, saying the President has no plans to end youth unemployment in the country.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Omo’ba Adesanya, the party said on Thursday that the endorsement of the President by students and youth groups sponsored by Governor Olusegun Mimiko in Akure, did not reflect the wishes and yearnings of South-West youths.
The party said it was unfortunate that the same youths who had been denied gainful employment and good fortune were being gathered to listen to promises that will never be fulfilled.
“It is not uncommon to see a 30-year-old still living under the roof of his parents even after completing higher education.
“This is happening under this present administration and now we see thuggery and hooliganism being promoted above intellectualism among the youths, while millions of our young graduates are walking on the streets daily searching for jobs,” the statement said.
It noted that impoverished youths had become political thugs for politicians.
The statement added, “Most of the youths that graced the post-confab summit convened by Mimiko only came because of the little money that will be given to them.
“In this perspective, it will be unfair if we say students and youth groups should not collect their shares of the largesse from Governor Olusegun Mimiko to endorse President Goodluck Jonathan.
“We can only advise the youth groups and students to collect the money and vote for a man with proven integrity, experience and competence to govern Nigeria, where their future would be guaranteed, and that man is Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.”
