The federal government of the Nigeria has said that food importation from other countries of the world must stop

Honourable Minister for Agriculture and rural development Dr. Akinwunmi Adeshina while speaking at 40th National Council meeting on Agriculture and rural development said for importation can only end be achieved through working with the state government to help improve Agriculture.

He said that there is no future for Nigeria without Agriculture that the country has to be a net through exporting and not importing country.

The honourable Minister said that Nigeria is the first country to start National Data base registration for farmers across the country saying all farmers have been registered and are supplied fertilizers regularly.

He said that Nigeria is the largest producer in cassava in the world and that Cassava bread is 80% cost of wheat bread, which is good and healthier for the people.

He recalled that former president Olusegun Obasanjo was the first Nigeria to take cassava bread to other countries of the world.

He explained that Nigeria was spending over one billion everyday importing rice but these has changed in his regime as Nigeria now plant fadama rice and others been transported from one state to the other across the country.

He said for Nigeria to be importing crude palm oil do not make good sense, saying that over 9million seedling would be given out free to the oil palm farmers in Ogun state.

He commended the state government for it collaboration last year to the success of 75,000 Tenera seedlings that was provided for farmers in Ogun state and these was replicated in kastina, kano, jigawa and sokoto reaching out to 32,000 farmers.

He also said that Nigeria is the largest producer of oranges, pineapples in Africa but it is unfortunate that we are not producing juice.
