Aggrieved Ijaw youths at Warri metropolis, Delta State, yesterday threatened to disrupt operations of Chevron Nigeria Ltd (CNL) over the alleged unwarranted sack of workers.

It was reliably gathered that Comrade Okeoghene Timmy Okirika, along with   others, was reportedly relieved of their jobs by the management of Chevron almost two years ago in a manner that sparked off troubles in the Ijaw community.

Expectedly, youths under the aegis of graduates of Egbema and Gbaramatu kingdoms in Warri North local government area said they would disrupt Chevron’s operations over the issue.

In a statement issued and signed by two of the youths, Comrade Bioro Kennedy and Belly Government, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent, said that Chevron has been adamant toward the reinstatement of the sacked workers despite the pressure on it to do so, claiming that Chevron refused to heed the decision of National Assembly and Ministry of Labour which waded into the matter, to reinstate the dismissed employees.

The statement explained that Chevron refused all peaceful avenues to resolving the problem.

It expressed surprise that Chevron bluntly refused to reinstate the sacked workers and pay them all their entitlements inspite of the intervention of several authorities, lamenting that instead of massively employing graduates and enhancing the well-being of graduates from host communities, Chevron was busy sacking the few in its employment scheme.

But officials of Chevron who did not want their names in the print said all allegations against the firm were baseless, adding that the workers were sacked for engaging in illegal activities.
