The talented OZEE has a new single “Gigye” which is already heating up the dance floor. “Gigye” has added a dash of hotness to the season which is already heated thanks to Kiss Daniel’s sizzling “Woju” track. Gigye has all the elements to be the party number of the year with its foot-tapping beats and peppy music.
This isn’t the first time the young artiste is cooking mind blowing music. OZEE is a Customs officer, but this hasn’t stopped him from recording music and being successful at it. With singles like “Double Double” which features the highly talented producer, rapper and singer Jesse Jagz alongside “Down Down” and “Zaman Tare”, both solo efforts, you could say OZEE has the best of both worlds.
In 2014, he released a 12-track album with two tracks promoting the Nigerian Customs Service. He performed at the World Customs International Day celebration in Abuja which got him commendations and an appreciative handshake *winks* from the comptroller-general of the Nigerian Customs Service and the secretary-general of the World Customs Organization.
In an interview, the “offcer with a swag” shed more light on his song.
“Gigye means dance in my dialect. I am Alago in Nasarawa State particularly Doma Local Government. I felt I needed to give my fans something new and different to dance to, so I decided to do it with a touch of my root. The mission is to give them a new experience in dance, which will be fully conceptualised in the video?”
Even in a dance track, he still managed to slip in a message about the perils of over indulgence in alcohol. Is that something we should expect in his lyrics?
“I’m an advocate of good messages in songs. As artists, I believe we can play a great role in bringing about social change through the messages embedded in our songs. I have been doing that and more should be expected from my stable.”
He featured Morell, a popular artist that sings and raps in Hausa. Why him?
“My major aim of featuring him was to complete the puzzle to having a highly cultured song. But I needed someone who could deliver it in a contemporary way so as to still appeal to the youth. I needed it also to be a representation of the north… having me from the north central and him from the north east was what gave birth to this idea.”
He added that we are concluding talks concerning the video. We are talking with an A list video director in Nigeria. My management said I should not let the cat out of the bag yet, so I will withhold the name of the director. But expect the video very soon.
