
Less than 24 hours to the expiration of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 72 senior police officers from the rank of deputy commissioners of police.
The head, press and public relations of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, made the promotions known yesterday in a statement in which he said the chairman of the commission and former inspector general of police, Sir Mike Okiro, presided over a plenary where the decision was taken.
“The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 72 senior police officers. The promotion was part of the decisions of the commission at its 12th Plenary Meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, May 26, 2015 and presided by its chairman, Sir Dr. Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police.
“The commission approved the promotion of 14 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Commissioners of Police after they appeared before the commission’s Plenary and were interviewed.
“20 ACPs were promoted to the rank of DCP while two CSPs were promoted to the rank of ACP. Another three CSPs were appointed acting ACP, one SP promoted to CSP, 30 DSPs to SP, one ASP to the next rank of DSP. One Inspector was appointed acting ASP,” Ani stated.
According to him, all the promotions take immediate effect.
