THE immediate past governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu was on Friday publicly booed and stoned by angry crowd at the Bako Kotangora township stadium, Minna, venue of the inauguration of the new Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Sani Bello.
Aliyu, who arrived at the stadium, at exactly 10.15am, met a hostile crowd who booed and called him unprintable names to express their anger over what they termed eight years of mismanagement and high-handedness.
Immediately the embattled former governor climbed the podium on his arrival at the stadium, the crowd shouted obscenities at him.
As Bello was taking the oath of office, the crowd continued to pelt Aliyu with food packs, sachet water, footwears, stones and every available missile while security agents tried all they could to shield him from danger.
Aliyu was said to have been warned earlier by security agents not to attend the inauguration due to unfavourable security reports but he ignored the warning.
Despite the reinforcement of the security agents with the deployment of military men from the 31 Brigade in Minna, the crowd remained adamant in their assault.
As the crowd became uncontrollable, the security agents fired shots and tear-gas to dispatch them.
